Insurance Woes

The joy we had when we brought in the arrival of our first child, was nothing in comparison to the joy we felt beginning our relationship with the insurance company. We hoped that the last thing we would have to worry about when caring for our premature baby was how to pay his medical bills. The following is all the hilarious and unbelievable situations that have arisen from the insurance company.

My son had to be quickly taken to another hospital when he was born that had an equipped NICU, and the bill to make this little drive was the first to arrive. The insurance had denied payment on this $1,000 because they didn't see it as a medical necessity. The only thing I could think of was that they expected us to try and plug the incubator in our car's cigarette lighter. We wrote an appeal, that has now made it covered.

It is sad really because we are only college students paying for the campus health insurance, which is pretty low budget, and they expect all our health needs to first be seen at the on campus health center. When my son was born, we happened to be in a different state, so going to their health center was a little out of the question. Since we cannot afford to take our son on a plane to their on campus health center every time he needs to go to the doctor, which was quite a bit, we are being held responsible for these kinds of bills.

His immunizations, for example, he received from a pediatrician's office. After the fact, we were told that because of this they would not be covered. Since we now are back at school and can go to the health center, I took my son there for his six month shots. Wouldn't you know that they don't offer his shots at the health center on campus?

So, apparently very little communication transpires between the policy makers of the health coverage at the insurance company, and the employees at the on campus health center. We need to pay out of pocket for not getting our services at the insurance's designated place that doesn't offer the services we need anyway. Are you as frustrated right now as I am? Good.

The mother of all our bills came from the doctors at the NICU that daily visited my son in the hospital. Let me first clarify that when my son was first admitted into the hospital, we called the insurance to make sure that this was ok and everything would be taken cared for. Regardless of their reassurance, the bill came stating our insurance's lack of coverage.

Apparently they cover the hospital, but not the doctors that work there. Because it is an option to go to the hospital without seeing a doctor. That totally defeats the purpose of going to the hospital doesn't it? So, I'm at a loss to how this policy makes any sense.

It is naturally being appealed for the lack of sense it makes along with the lack of options we had once he was admitted into the hospital. Especially since I was still in the hospital when he was admitted. A small band was put on his ankle as a safety precaution that kept us or anyone else from taking the baby even to the elevators. Aside from those excuses, we wanted the best care our three pound son who needed help with the simple task of breathing without having a second thought about what the insurance was going to do.

I'm assuming that there is a man somewhere in the depths of the insurance company who makes his living out of writing confusing no nonsense policies about receiving medical treatment when he himself has probably never been to the doctor. Apparently when you work with insurance you are miraculous free from any kind of medical attention, or else they would be most astute at making it easier to use their policies. I wonder why it was such a topic of debate at the last election?

Miraculously, we have found people in the insurance company who have the rare quality to actually want to help you. We found the key is that when you come across these people, ask them if they will personally help you in all your claims in the future. Even asking if it is appropriate to have their email or personal extension so as to avoid the mindless phone reps that only can read from a prompt of how to direct your problem. This has been most useful in our circumstance.

Their is always an appeals process to anything going on that you know is incorrect, so don't be intimidated to use your rights as their client. Before you pay a bill, contact the insurance so they can check the system and insure they have done all they are required to do for that particular claim. Then, check again with the doctor's bills to keep them from charging you over the agreed rate they made with your insurance, without you knowing it. Make note of things the insurance company tells you so that if it comes to a misunderstanding, you have a clear recollection of what you were told.

In reality these are just people doing a job, and it might help them if we show them how they can improve. It is just a fact that dealing with the insurance is part of getting healthcare. The only way to avoid it, well, don't get sick.

As you might guess, when he checks into the resort hotel, he looks up and sees Sarah and her new lover, who has it all. This sets up as a fun filled romantic comedy.

THE DARK KNIGHT: Batman, along with Lieutenant Jim Gordon and District Attorney Harvey Dent, are taking the major criminals off the streets. Things are going very well, until a new criminal mastermind shows up, and attacks the city. Batman is in a battle now, as criminal mastermind, the Joker, has released his criminal plots on the big city.

WANTED: Wesley Gibson is about to learn that his long lost father is a contract killer. When his father is killed, Wesley is basically forced into the organization that his dead father was involved with. He is asked to become the killing expert that he was meant to be. From there, things get extremely complicated. Enjoy the ride.

STEP BROTHERS: Two forty year old child adults, who each live with their single parents, are going to share a room because their mom and dad get married, you can only imagine the mess. With Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly as the key players, and you have the ingredients for a raucous comedy. This film is a sure fire bet for comedy lovers.

MADAGASCAR: ESCAPE 2 AFRICA: As you might imagine, this is the next edition to the highly acclaimed Madagascar. The small group of animal friends are ready to go back to the Central Park Zoo, and go back to the lives they know. As opposed to going home, with the Penguins leading them astray, they will wind up going to Africa, for more adventures.

THE CHRONICALS OF NARNIA, PRINCE CASPIAN: It's only about one down the road in their normal lives when, the four saviors of Narnia, Lucy, Susan, Peter, and Edmund magically reappear in Narnia. Running for his life, Prince Caspian has blown the magic horn, in a desperate plea for help. In their one year at home, centuries have passed in Narnia, but they have been called back to battle for the freedom of Narnia once again. With the aid of the best fighters in the Narnia, including a very brave mouse, they conquer their foes and free Narnia.

ZACK AND MIRI MAKE A PORNO: Rent is over due and Zack and Miri, life long platonic friends who live together, need to make some money. The answer? Easy, make porno films. As you might expect this sets the stage for a funny film.

How To Fix Pastel Paintings The Right Way!...

You may not know what fixing is? Really it is just a way of keeping your painting in good condition.

To fix or not to fix, that is the question? Only you can decide that. Artists the world over have different viewpoints. You can fix when your work is totally finished, do a bit here and there as you go along, or simply not do it at all. Artists may feel it may not sustain it's colour freshness.

Should you want to fix your painting without spraying, there is something you can do. A good alternative, perhaps is, to cover the painting with a sheet of cellophane paper or even tissue, then place a board on top of this and press hard. Your pressure then makes the pastel specks go more definately into the grain of your paper. Do not apply too much pressure or this could change the texture surface of your painting.

Another way is to fix the back of your painting - this is to avoid you overspraying the painting. What happens is the fixative will soak through so that it makes the pastel damp to hold it in position, but does not really upset the surface. Some paper is pretty absorbent, therefore this is an improved way of fixing, rather than creating like a skin of fixative over not settled pigments.

Other people use Diffusers, not so easy, as they tend to clog up. After use you can unclog them with a piece of wire, which in turn leaves them clean for the next artwork. Whoever said fixing is easy? Stand a good distance away, at least two feet, and start spraying from the outside in.

You will need a steady hand and spray backwards and forwards across your work slowly. Past the edges, but don't ever make a stop in the middle. The aim is to keep your arm moving, but you also only want a fine spray. It is horrible if the spray sticks somewhere and ends up dripping all the way down, most probably giving you nasty dark patches.

If you are wanting to retain the brightness of your colours on your painting and you really like to fix your work, I can only suggest the following: Please spray it on during the painting process! However, you need to do this before you put on any final layer of colour, do any touch ups or highlights. If you do it this way it should surely keep it's freshness.

Otherwise you are likely to find that you are disheartened by the fact that your work seems to be ruined by a dull effect. I also find that if you apply it this way, you will not have problems with new colours mixing amongst ones applied earlier.

All I can advice is, do not fix the final layer of colour if you want nice fresh colour. Fixing can be a difficult process, so I can only wish you the best of luck with it!

Even in this electronic age of computer games, families still like to sit down together to play traditional games. Hasbro board games have a long history and the franchise stands for entertainment for all ages. How to use your custom earplugs

So you've bought your first pair of custom earplugs. Hopefully, your hearing protection provider will have shown you how to insert and remove them. Just in case you need a quick refresher, here's a step-by-step guide for you.

Inserting your earplugs

Right hand side

First of all let's look at the shape of the earplug. There will be a flat section which is designed to touch your tragus, while the tip of the earplug is inserted into your ear canal.

The plug for your right ear should be marked in red, or with the letter 'R'. To insert it into your ear, take hold of it with your right hand, grasping it between your forefinger and thumb, slide your thumb so that it is touching the flat outer section.

Take your left hand, and reach over your head to gently pull your right ear upwards. Place the earplug tip into your ear canal and as you push it inside your ear, slowly rotate it backwards by about 180 degrees. Give the earplug a wiggle to make sure that it sits properly in your ear and it is totally comfortable. As described above the flat part should be resting on the tragus.

The left ear

Again, your custom earplug will have a section that enters the ear canal and a flat section across the top of the hearing protector. The flat section will eventually rest against the tragus.

This earplug should be marked in blue, or with the letter 'L', and again you should take hold of it between the thumb and forefinger, this time with your left hand. Slide your thumb so that it is touching the flat part of the earplug.

Reach over your head with your right hand and gently pull your left ear upwards slightly. Place the tip of the earplug into your ear canal, and as you push the earplug into your ear slowly rotate it backwards. Wiggle your ear to ensure the earplug is comfortable and is forming a snug seal with your ear.

It may be beneficial to use a small amount of otoform cream on your earplugs if you are using them for the first time, or if they have recently been cleaned. Take a small amount of cream and massage it over the earplug.

You will find that it is much easier to slip into your ear and it will also improve the seal between the custom earplug and your ear.

Removing your earplugs

Taking your earplugs out is very easy! Use your thumb to apply pressure to the base of your ear. This will gently force the earplug out, and you will find it slowly slides out and into your hand. Repeat this process for the other ear and your earplugs are out!

THE CHRONICALS OF NARNIA, PRINCE CASPIAN: Just one year has passed in "real" time, when Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy are mysteriously pulled back into Narnia. In their one year at home, centuries have passed in Narnia, but they have been called back to rescue Narnia from an evil fate. WALL-E: This film is a science fiction adventure in animation. Mankind has left Earth, since it had become a pile of rubbish. Wall-E, a trash collecting robot, is assigned to clean up the mess. When a recon bot (Eve) appears, checking for any signs of life, Wall-E is finally not alone. Eventually when Eve is recovered by the craft that sent her, Wall-E sneaks aboard, and thus starts the adventure of his robot life.

THE DARK KNIGHT: Batman, and Lt. Gordon and D.A. Harvey Dent, are on a mission to clean up Gotham City. Crime is now down, that is until the Joker shows up, and attacks the city. Batman has his work cut out him now, as criminal mastermind, the Joker, has released an overwhelming assault on Gotham City.

WHAT HAPPENS IN VEGAS: It was a wild night in Las Vegas. Young partiers Joy and Jack get up the next day and find out that they are married. They wind up winning a large jackpot at the slot machines, but each thinks they deserve the prize, so they ask a judge for a decision. The strange ruling is that they must stay together for six months, and try to make their marriage work. With $3 million on the line, they each try to get the other to give up, as both desire to wind up with all the money.

TWENTY ONE: The basis for this film is an amazing true story about M.I.T. students who formed a team of blackjack winners. These wiz kids prepared and then enacted a brilliant run at the blackjack tables. To play in Las Vegas, where players can be banned for winning with card counting skills, they had to change casinos often, and disguise themselves, so the wouldn't get caught. This movie is based on the best selling book that tells how the M.I.T. teams made millions playing blackjack.

10,000 B.C.: This movie sends us back 1,000's of years. When mysterious warlords from another tribe attack the Yaghai's, they kidnap the beautiful Evolet. D'Leh, a young hunter who loves Evolet, organizes a band of hunters to chase down these warmongers, and save her, and the rest of the captured tribe members.

The film genre is science fiction-action.

IRON MAN: Super stud, engineering expert, Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) is attacked and taken by Afghan insurgents. They try to force him to make missiles for the insurgent group. He sustained injuries while he was being captured, and has shrapnel stuck in his chest. To survive his injuries, and escape his captors, he designs a suit of armor, which makes him virtually invincible. Iron Man is born.

SPEED RACER: A cartoon from the 90's is now a movie hit. Just like The Flinstones, Speed Racer turns a cartoon into a movie with real actors. Born into the family business, Speed Racer is a young man who loves racing. His goal is to win The Crucible, a big race that had cost his brother his life. With no one expecting him to win, and risking it all, Speed Racer teams with his old rival Racer X, in a last ditch effort to give himself a chance to win, and rescue the family racing business.

NICU Humor

In a previous article, I shared helpful tools I acquired during my NICU experience. It also proves helpful in such a circumstance to see the humor amidst all the monotony of such a situation. With a sincere desire to bring laughter, or at least a grin to those experiencing what I have experienced, I contribute this piece.

I quickly discovered during my time in the NICU that some babies are there on account of scandalous and intriguing matters. To help ease the monotony and sorrow of my own situation, I became very astute to try my best to overhear the juicy situations of those around me. By doing so, it became quite an entertaining venture for me day to day.

For example, the baby that had no visitors, it was overheard, was in the middle of a custody battle due to the mothers lack of knowledge as to the actual father. When the father arrived to retrieve the child, my mouth gaped at the results of the hearing. Quite literally as well, because my husband had to shake me out of my blatant staring, as my eaves dropping at times became quite apparent. It was as good as a television drama.

Onto another act of comedy, my closest acquaintances would agree that compared to most human beings, I am hardly the most coordinated. Seeing a baby attached to all kinds of wires that are necessary in keeping him alive, whilst knowing that I was to care for, hold, or even be near that baby cause great alarm to many people, rightfully so. Surprisingly, and thankfully no serious calamity occurred resulting from this detail, but it did inspire some hilarious instances.

My son was in an incubator that you could reach your arms into by pushing a latch and opening a small round door. Then you could touch him, hold his hand, change his diaper, without him getting cold. What was not commonly known to me, was that the door is spring loaded. So when I pushed the latch, I didn't pay attention to the door itself, which flung open with great eagerness, causing a load bang on the monitors next to it.

I then noticed that my poor son, in the commotion, had grabbed his oxygen tube in a death grip of his entire three pounds, and was lifting them over his head. His heart rate was feeling the effects as well. As his nerves calmed down, I unlatched his hands from the oxygen cords, and explained gently to him that such instances need to be expected from now on if he is to have me for his mother.

I have to begin this next bit with the understanding that NICU nurses are in my opinion far superior to most human beings. I did observe, however, that when they sometimes offered advice pertaining to tactics of caring for a premature baby, they sometimes contradicted each other. Luckily this wasn't the case for serious matters, just personal customs.

For example, one nurse said that after you feed the baby, you should barely tap it on the back and then lay him down immediately to prevent throwing up or any other stomach irritation. The next nurse said when you are done feeding the baby you should bounce him up and down, spin him in circles, rub his head, and smack him on the back to burp him. Needless to say, I've resorted to my own method on this matter.

I have forty-five days worth of witty tales that I could continue in sharing. Firstly, all foreign doctors that sputter the extensive medical terms in thick accents, ensuring my misunderstanding. Plus the cleaning lady who seemed to invade me everytime I was in the breast pumping room, aside from the ocupado sign. Anyway, whether you are still going daily to the NICU or only see it as a vague remembrance like me, I will leave it to you to create your own humor out of the idiosyncrasies of the NICU.

This may be unconventional thinking, but it's possible that the best sci fi can alter the way in which we view our universe. Often, it shows us whole new areas of imagination, and may even influence us enough to inspire us to create what we imagine.

Main stream literature can inspire as well, but it usually only deals with the standard tropes of life, death, and how we deal with them. It is often so concerned with realism that it neglects imagination.

The best sci fi, however, can enlarge our perceptions and help us follow new avenues of thought. It can help us imagine what an artificial intelligence might be like. Or a species from another planet. In doing so, it also helps us look at ourselves in new ways.

New technologies may also be explored. Isn't it possible that Asimov's whole concept of robot intelligence and artificial consciousness is even now inspiring modern scientists? This idea would almost certainly be pursued anyway, but his ideas are certainly influential.

The more traditional story doesn't do as good a job as science fiction does when it comes to studying what it means to be human. It is more limited by conventions, so can't be very speculative.

Describing a world that doesn't exist, or imagining the appearance of an alien species, takes at least as much skill as any other type of writing. It shouldn't be overlooked because it lacks realism.

Many people avoid non realistic stories. This is a mistake, and they need to remember that all tales are ultimately the creation of an author's imagination.

Some introspection will show that no fictional work is actually about real events. All good fiction is designed to lead a reader into believing that certain characters and locations really exist, even though the author has just made them up.

So, all stories, no matter their subject, are created to help a reader forget about reality for a while. Really talented writers can also help teach us new ways to think about stuff that we normally take for granted.

When it comes to invention, speculation, and imagination, the best sci fi often surpasses ordinary literature. It should get more attention and critical study than it now receives.

Hair Transplants - The Real Truth Uncovered

2. While you wait, a team of medical staff carefully dissects the strip of hair under microscopes. The hairs are cut up into something called 'grafts'. These grafts are groups of hair that can either have one, two, three of four hairs. These grafts are the units of hair that will be used in the actual transplant.

3. When the team is done with the hair dissection, it is time for the hair follicles to be transplanted into the bald area on your head. While you sit in a chair, the doctor makes tiny openings in your scalp. This can be done using either a very tiny medical instrument, or a high precision laser. Once the openings are in place, the medical staff will implant the grafts one by one. The grafts with the fewest hair will make up your front hairline to give you a natural look.

It is possible that you will find a hair clinic that does the procedure differently. As technology progresses, methods change. But as of today, this is basically how hair transplants are done. The hair from the back of your head is cut up into grafts. The grafts are implanted into openings that are made in the balding areas of your scalp. Afterwards, these grafts continue to grow nicely.

After your transplant is complete, the hairs will continue to grow normally for two weeks. Then, they fall out due to something called shock loss. This is normal and not something to be concerned about. It is simply a reaction of your grafts to the operation. After a while, the hairs will continue to grow normally and uninterrupted all your life long.

If your baldness is bothering you greatly, a hair transplant might help relieve your pain. But know that hair transplants aren't the miracle solution to your hair loss. The rest of your hair will still fall out, which means you'll have to get more hair transplants in the future. There are a lot of great hands in poker that are not part of the top 10 hands. In fact, there are some situations where the hands that are not in the top 10 are better then some that are in the top 10 hands.

For example, if you had two 7's in your hand and the other four people at the table each has a King and an Ace, you wouldn't have a top ten hand, yet you would have the benefit over everyone else at the table. Yes, this would probably never happen, but it illustrates the point that not every top 10 hand is perfect.

There are occasions when a top 10 hand is best, yet there are other occasions where they need to be folded. You could be playing a big pot and have a 6-7 suited, while the other players have a KK or AA. In this case the two players with the pairs have lower odds than you do of winning. If you can stick with it, and the other players don't handle their bets appropriately, you could be in for a big win.

The best times to have the top 10 starting hands is when you are going at it with a player or two ahead of the flop. If you are going to go all in or put a lot of your money into the pot you want to be ahead when you do it. You cannot be ahead if you do not have at least a top 5 starting hand before the flop. For about two years now, we've been going to selected crafts shows. Initially, I just thought we could make a bit of extra income by selling my girlfriend's handcrafted jewelry: Decorative jewelry in the sense that it's just to adorn a body, as it's really not that expensive.

But that's why it works. As her handcrafted jewelry is made from pieces that are cheap, they saw quite a good market here in the Sunshine State. They went pretty well with beach wear, as it's not a good idea to wear something pricey. There's a good chance one will lost it in the waves.

And my girlfriend happens to have a good eye for fashion, too. The material is cheap, but the finish certainly isn't. You just have to see the intricate pattern of her earrings, the simplistic beauty of her bracelets. They are very beautiful.

Doc Martin TV Series

The Doc Martin TV Series is a British comedy drama starring Martin Clunes. Martin Clunes plays Portwenn's local GP, Martin Ellingham, who was once a successful London surgeon until he developed a phobia of blood that prevented him conducting operations. After retraining as a GP, he applied for a post in the sleepy Cornish hamlet of Portwenn, where he spent childhood holidays.

Much of the show's humour revolves around Martin Ellingham's interaction with the local Cornish villagers. Despite his surgical brilliance, Ellingham lacks vital personal skills and any semblance of a bedside manner, and often fails to understand other people. Dr Ellingham (referred to as "Doc Martin" by the friendly locals), much to his disgust, finds the surgery is in disarray.

As the village's new doctor steps into the village he is encountered by a dog who seems to become besotted with him, following him into his house, car, surgery and even in his bed throughout both Series 1 and 2. Despite Doc Martin's bitterness towards the dog, he ends up reluctantly liking it, after giving up with the villagers thinking Doc Martin is its owner.

The community is united in horror at their miseryguts of a new GP. Doc Martin soon finds he needs all the allies he can get as he tries to negotiate his way around village life with humorous consequences.

Martin is joined by a cast which includes Stephanie Cole as his Aunt Joan, who provides him with emotional support in the face of the disquiet among the villagers. Caroline Catz plays feisty primary school teacher Louisa Glasson. Doc Martin is attracted to her, but he is hopeless at personal relationships.

Martin Clunes' character was originated as Dr. Martin Bamford in the 2000 film Saving Grace. He then appears in two "prequel" television films made by BSkyB, Doc Martin and Doc Martin and the Legend of the Cloutie, in which viewers learn that Bamford, a successful obstetrician, finds that his wife has been carrying on extramarital affairs behind his back with his three best friends. After confronting her with the news, he decides to leave London and heads for Cornwall, which he remembers fondly from his youth. Shortly after he arrives, he gets involved in the mystery of the "Jellymaker" and, following the departure of the village's resident GP, decides to stay in Port Isaac and fill the gap himself.

Although the original deal was to produce two television films per year for three years, Sky Pictures folded after the first two were made, so Clunes' company tried selling the franchise to ITV who generally liked it, but felt the character of Martin Bamford needed a little something more to him than just being a "townie" who is a little out of his depth in the country. ITV wanted something a little more edgy, so Martin Clunes came up with the idea of the doctor being unusually grumpy. In the process, the doctor's last name was changed from Bamford to Ellingham, an anagram of the last name of new writer Dominic Minghella who was brought in to re-work the Doc's backstory and create a new village of supporting characters.

Quite often during the series there are references to people being "a bit Bodmin". This is a reference to the fact that Bodmin was once the centre of mental health care for the South West, and was based at the former St Lawrence's Hospital site and now at Bodmin Hospital.

Foam earplugs, and other forms of traditional hearing protection tend to reduce high frequency sounds much more than mid to low frequency sounds. That is one reason why it is often difficult to hear the fine nuances of music, follow conversations or hear warning signals.

It is also difficult to get traditional forms of hearing protection in more than one level of attenuation (or noise reduction). While it may seem that the highest level of attenuation is best, if you cut out too much noise it means you are less likely to wear your hearing protectors because you get that closed in feeling and feel isolated from what is happening around you.

When using hearing protection that cuts out too much noise, it can be tempting not to use your hearing protectors, or remove them for brief periods while having a conversation with your colleagues. This can lead to reduced effectiveness of your hearing protection.

To get the balance right between too little and too much attenuation, you should consider using custom earplugs.

For custom earplugs, it is important to get ear canal impressions that extend past the second bend of the ear canal. This means that a deep seal is created with the bony part of the ear which minimises the closed in feeling (or occlusion effect) and makes for a more natural sounding earplug.

A BluRay has twice the definition of a regular DVD. A BluRay definition is 1080, where the DVD is 480-520. Obviously, BluRay is best for HDTVs.
