Canon responds to black dot and banding concerns

Canon has made a statement regarding concerns that have been raised about the EOS 5D Mk II. The message addresses the widely discussed 'Black Dot' and 'Vertical Banding' issues that have been reported by current and prospective owners who have been studying the camera's output. The company says it is looking into both issues and is planning to develop measures to reduce or eliminate these phenomena.

Canon statement:

To Owners of the EOS 5D Mark II Digital SLR Camera

Thank you for using Canon products.

We have learned that some users of the Canon EOS 5D Mark II digital SLR camera have identified two types of image quality phenomena that appear under certain shooting conditions.

1. "Black dot" phenomenon (the right side of point light sources becomes black) 2. Vertical banding noise

We are currently investigating and analyzing the causes, and examining measures to reduce or eliminate these phenomena by providing correction firmware. An announcement will be made on www.canon-europe.com as soon as measures have been determined.

Details of the phenomena and shooting conditions under which they are likely to occur are as follows.

1. "Black dot" phenomenon (the right side of point light sources becomes black) When shooting night scenes, the right side of point light sources (such as lights from building windows) may become black. The phenomenon may become visible if the images are enlarged to 100% or above on a monitor or if extremely large prints of the images are made.

2. Vertical banding noise If the recording format is set to sRAW1, vertical banding noise may become visible depending on the camera settings, subject, and background. ? Vertical banding noise is not noticeable if the recording format is set to sRAW2. ? Vertical banding noise does not occur if the recording format is set to RAW or JPEG. ? Noise can be reduced if C.Fn II-3: Highlight tone priority is set to 0: Disable.

A Preview of Adobe Photoshop CS4

It appears that things at Adobe are getting better and better. CS3 gave us new features such as non-destructive smart filters, quick selection, 3D compositing, enhanced RAW image processing and HDR support.

The new Creative Suite is designed to meet different challenges such as effective collaborations between designers and developers, embracing new media, reinventing publishing and embracing the explosion of connected media. In fact Chad Seigel, Group Manager for Creative Suite said: "Adobe are trying to break barriers and integrate all products."

Changes to Photoshop CS4 include an improved interface with the entire application enclosed in the frame which means dual monitor users can have more than one application running. The workspace switcher is for swapping between applications such as Camera RAW 5 and Bridge.

Some welcome improvements include zoom ratio which is less likely to show jagged or pixelated lines and also boasts a flicker free zoom. You can also now rotate the canvas without jagged lines and the brush size can be previewed on the document. This means that when the tool is placed over the image it can be moved in size and allows you to see it before you use it.

Another tool that has been improved is the Dodge/Burn tool, now when you're adjusting the shadows, midtones or highlights the tool won't impose on the other two. When adjusting the saturation on the sponge tool it won't move out of acceptable gamma.

Another change is the preview window which is now in the tab instead of a new window that overlaps the image. Because of this change your picture can be viewed in its entirety and as an added bonus tools such as curves can be adjusted directly on the image for localized amendments. Adjustment has its own dedicated window that includes all the tools found in the area such as levels, curves, brightness/contrast and exposure.

The icons have been simplified for well-organized use; now you can see what you need to use much faster than before.

One part of the existing features that's been improved upon is the clone tool. When your area is selected by stamping on it, a preview of the selected area will show on your brush. Meaning if you're cloning small detail items or subjects such as bricks, this allows you to line them up easier.

The mask panel allows you to select an area which can be manipulated and even inverted which is good for selective color images.

A feature I really like is content aware cropping. The feature works by first masking the areas you wish to retain in the picture. The image can then be resized and the parts that are protected won't be cropped into. The program will start to remove areas in between which is an amazing feature to see and use.

An improved blend layer mode has been added and is great for techniques such as focus stacking. The program adjusts the exposure and color automatically so there's no need to mess about first.

The images must be loaded in as layers and highlighted. Once you have done that click on Edit>Auto blend layers and the images will be composited together. The process can take some time so be patient.

It can also be useful to create HDR images if you prefer the ones without the ethereal effect that most systems produce.

Bryan Hughes, Photoshop Product Manager, is adamant that this isn't a HDR tool though, as it doesn't give a full high dynamic range in all areas so the familiar ethereal look of a HDR image is absent. He did add that if need be, it could be described as a clipped version of HDR.

Photoshop CS4 Extended also features 3D support. Two dimensional images can be changed to 3D by giving them x, y and z co-ordinates and these images can also be wrapped around imported 3D images. Photoshop CS4 also works in conjunction with Google 3D warehouse where thousands of 3D images are available to import. Merging a 2D image onto a 3D image is very easy with the only command being the Merge button. The 2D layer will then acquire all the 3D attributes such as decay detail, colour and reflections. The 3D image can be manipulated as well and you can also enjoy features such as creating cut-outs, adding detail or changing colours to the interior of the cut-out.

As an added bonus, a feature has been added for help with people who are color blind. Colors in Photoshop CS4 can now be adjusted for true color blindness.

One thing I don't like is the removal of the quick tools from the image window bar. When you've opened an image, right clicking on the header bar will bring up five options of duplicate, image size, canvas size, file info for metadata and page set up. I used these a lot, especially file info and to find it's not there adds time to my workflow.

Regardless, at the press release for Photoshop CS4 I was incredibly excited when I saw the new features. The newest features including auto blend and content aware cropping are amazing. I also enjoy using the localized adjustments on Lightroom 2 so it'll be really beneficial on Photoshop CS4.

Look at the noted upgrades box and see if you'll use all those extra features. Add to that the efficient zooming and 89 percent less drag on the mouse making it move across the screen faster.

Bear in mind that the list is for the Extended version which supports the 3D applications. If you don't need those then don't bother with Extended but as far as I'm concerned this new version is the best one yet.

Headshots & Resumes - Tips For Actors & Models

Headshot is what it sounds like. A professional photo of your face. The most important thing about a headshot is that the photo looks like you, perhaps a better, more glamorous version of you, but still you. I've had directors not recognize the headshot and not remember the person's audition. Your physical characteristics are the main interest of whatever job you are auditioning for. This is not always the case though, if you're a good enough actor/actress; the casting director may pencil you in for another part if you do not have the specific look they are casting for mainly.

A resume is a very important tool, even if you do not have much experience. First off, it will tell the casting director who you are, measurements, and hair/eye color. Second, it will show your experience and special skills/interests you have. Third, the contact information on who to get a hold of to book you for the job. Remember, every job is different and you must treat it as though it was a job interview. Imagine how would you dress and act if you were to be interview for your dream job.

DO'S

Print or staple your resume to the back of your headshot. I've been told that casting directors prefer you to staple the resume using four staples, one in each corner.

If you are stapling, trim your resume to fit the headshot. You do not it want to look sloppy.

Make sure the head shot shows your face. I've seen headshots that are so close-up, it's hard to see the whole person.

Have a few extra copies with you when you go to auditions. You never know who will want them. Keep them in your car, away from the sun; you never know when you may need them.

DON'T

Lie about your experience.

Make up special skills or write things down just so you fill in the special skill area.

Have a resume and headshot that is larger that 8 x 10. An oversize headshot won't fit in a standard folder and will probably just get thrown away.

Have a resume that is more than one page. If they want more information, they will ask for it. Only include your most important and current experience that you think will "woo" the casting director. Remember, every job is different.

Staple reviews or clippings to your resume. They just get in the way.

Make the type smaller than 10 pt. If you have that much experience, edit it down. If your resume is cramped and hard to read, no one will bother.

Here are some things you want to think about when creating your resume.

A lot of theater is about connections. If you worked a well-known theater like the Long Wharf Theater or the Guthrie, make sure that the name of the theater is on your resume. If you worked with a well-known director such as Sam Mendes or Mac Wellman, make sure their name is on your resume.

One of the things that can happen in an audition is that a name on your resume is recognized, so it gets second look.

You do not have to list everything you've done. List the most important roles and events first.

The example resume has a place for everything including theater, tours, film, television and commercials. You don't have to have all these things on your resume either. Cutting a major theater performance, just to listing a student film to demonstrate film experience is probably not worth it.

Just use common sense and don't worry if it's your resume doesn't have any large theaters or major experience on it. Everybody has to start at the beginning. That is why Tru Talent is here. AUDITIONING ETIQUETTE

Auditioning can be stressful, but it's the best way to find work in theater, film and commercials. Here are some helpful hints when heading out for an audition.

FIRST AND FOREMOST, do not assume! When you go into an audition, do not do anything until the casting director directs you to. They are the ones interviewing you and will give you directions on what to do.

Try not to apologize if you mess up. If you forget your lines, try to recover the best you can. Do not stop and ask if you can start over.

Arrive at least 15 minutes early. You don't want to have to rush into your audition. Give yourself time to find the space and warm up.

Pack your bag with a book in case there is waiting and a bottle of water. Not every place has a water fountain.

Be nice to everybody. You never know if the person you are speaking to is important.

There may be several people waiting with you to audition. Remember that they are competing with you for the same job. Don't let them intimidate you.

Wear neat, comfortable clothing. I know you want to look nice, but make sure you can move around the room. And don't wear a costume. Your outfit can suggest the character such as a high-collar blouse for a period piece, but don't get all dressed up. (UNLESS SUGGESTED OTHERWISE)

Careful when using perfume or cologne. You don't want to send anyone out of the room in a sneezing fit.

Try to find some background information about who you are auditioning for. If you are auditioning for a particular company, be familiar with their work. It can also help you decide which pieces to choose for your audition.

Bring a few different extra headshots. You never know how many you will need.

Make sure your resume is firmly attached to your headshot. If possible, photocopy or print your resume to the back of the headshot. Stapling does the job fine, but I know that the headshots with staples get tangled in a pile. It is so much easier to access the individual sheets.

Make sure your headshot/resume is no large than 8" by 10". This will fit into a folder. If the headshot is oversized, it may end up in the trash.

Remember to smile. If you are nervous, take a deep breath and try to relax. Recognize that you are not going to get every job you audition for, but can learn from every experience.

When you are called in for your audition, be confident and smile and unless it is vital, avoid asking too many questions as your audition probably has a tight time slot.

If no information for the audition is given, keep your monologue to about a minute. Most directors can tell in that time if they are interested. Have several pieces prepared and one longer piece in case they ask to see more.

Definitely do not ask if you will be called back. The casting director will let us know, that you can be sure of. If you do get called back, wear the same outfit as during your audition.

Apple has taken instant, hand held entertainment to a new level, allowing I-pod users to create their own videos and upload them onto their I-pods to enjoy and share, or to purchase their favorite music videos from I-tunes (or one of any number of other online retailers) to carry with them anywhere they go.

There are a number of ways to get your favorite music videos such as Eminem and movie clips onto your I-pod where youll be able to enjoy them wherever and whenever you want.

The Safest Bets

You can join a website for the specific purpose of supplying videos for portable media players. This is often a good option, because the files will already be in the format that will be compatible with your I-pod software, so all you have to do is essentially point and click to have all of your favorite music videos in the palm of your hand. The only downside to joining a membership site, is that you have to pay the fee regardless of how many videos you download - so if you only find a few that you really want, then you could be paying an exceedingly high per-video fee. The up side is that downloading videos this way is perfectly safe and legal; you can search and download all the videos you want without any fear of viruses or legal repercussions.

You can transfer videos from DVDs that you already own, which will be free, but a little bit more complicated. I-pods only support video in the MPEG 4 format, which means that any videos in any other format will have to be translated into the MPEG 4 format in order to be compatible with your I-pod. Translating video into this format will require you to purchase software that can change the video format, creating an extra cost and adding an extra step to the process. You may or may not be able to find a software application that can translate certain video formats for you for free, but be very wary about what sites you download programs from - in looking for a cheaper alternative, you may just find yourself with an unwanted virus.

You can also join a "pay as you download" site, where you wont have any out of pocket cost to join, but will pay for each individual video that you download. This is just as safe and legal as the pay membership sites, but you will probably end up paying a bit more for each individual video that you download. These sites often have very extensive libraries containing thousands and thousands of videos to choose from like Lil Wayne or akon, so finding the exact videos that you want shouldnt be very challenging.

A Cheaper but, Risky Option

If you dont want to pay for the software to translate videos into the MPEG4 format, or pay anything for the videos that you download, you can always visit a free download or shareware site. Youll usually be able to find exactly what you are looking for on these sites, but the big downsides here are that it is dangerous and illegal. These sites usually arent monitored very well, so its pretty common to find that either a virus or some form of spy-ware has found its way onto your computer, particular if your are on the sites often.

Whatever method of downloading videos to your I-pod that you happen to choose, youll be opening yourself up to a whole new style of entertainment. Youll have instant access to all of your favorite music videos, no matter when or where you want to view them. It's a fact that there isn't a television program or play produced without the need for gaff tape.

In film production a gaffer is the supervising electrician and might be referred to in the film credits as the Lighting Director. He is accountable for implementing the lighting for the entire filming and manages all of the lighting personel. Film credits sometimes refer to the gaffer as the Chief Lighting Technician. The show credits in television sometimes use the title of Director of Lighting.

A Lot of of us have seen the credits at the end of a film that show a "gaffer", but don't understand who it is. The term "gaffer" comes from British slang meaning "grandfather". In the beginning days of movie production the lighting equipment was heavy and stevedores were used to move the equipment around the set. The most senior of these workers was referred to as the "grandfather" or "Gaffer". Another term "Best Boy" is still used today and refers to the "Gaffers" assistant.

Gaff tape has many great properties. It's easy to tear, but it won't break easily by pulling or twisting. It adheres to most surfaces and doesn't leave an unsightly residue when pulled up. These factors make it the almost perfect tape to use in stage and screen productions.

The most used color for gaffer's tape is matte black for use on sets so that it does not bring attention to the application it's being used on. The tape comes in many colors and is used to identify cables, mark places on the set for the actors and to identify any hazards that could exist on the set.

One of the best applications for gaffer's tape is the securing of lighting fixtures and electrical cables on a stage. It's also extensively used for securing pieces of the set. To prolong the life of your Xbox, you will need to run it cool. Now, I'm not saying that you should put your Xbox outside in the cold or in a refrigerator. This has been tried and you don't want to do this because the Xbox's internal components were designed to work near room temperature.

To prevent overheating, you must always ensure that it is well ventilated. That means not using it in confined spaces such as a crowded entertainment center or storage cabinet. Wherever you use it, make sure there's a lot of free, open, and well ventilated space around it.

Shag carpeting is out because the fans in the back will get blocked. Use props to keep it off the carpet, put it up on a table, or use it on any firm and solid surface. The fans will also be blocked if cables or cords get bunched up in the area.

Make sure that you keep the fans free of any debris. Depending on the nature of your environment, human hair, pet hair, dirt, grit, dust, and lint can build up quite rapidly. That's because of all of the air passing through the fans which funnel dust just like a vacuum cleaner. Using some compressed air to clean the fans will easily increase air flow into your Xbox.

Don't run your machine for lengthy time periods. The components inside will heat up and continue to heat up over time. If your Xbox is not being used, give it a rest and turn it off.

Most users with failed Xboxes typically had their machines on for more than four hours at a time. If you live in a very warm climate without air conditioning, your Xbox will tend to heat up even faster. In this case, you will have to scale down your playing time further.

Nip Tuck Season 5 Review

If you love Nip Tuck, you are sure to have anxiously waited for season five of the popular show. This season was supposed to be 22 episodes, but the writers strike caused only the first 14 to be shown. Those 14 episodes were however explosive and backed full of new twists, new characters, and lots and lots of sex. However, it was not all good for the boys and their friends.

The fifth season begins with Sean and Christian moving their practice from Florida to California. As one would expect, theres no shortage of need for plastic surgeons in Beverly Hills, but theres just one little issue for the two. No one knows who they are. To answer this, they enlist publicist Fiona McNeil. She wastes no time in getting them a part as technical advisors on a television show based on, would you believe it, plastic surgeons!

As they work on Hearts n Scalpels, they meet the executive producer and assorted members of its cast, including Aidan Stone. The soap takes up a good amount of time in the first episodes of this season. While the self-centered, over the top Aidan is extremely entertaining, there are many times when it seems just a bit too much. Maybe it would be OK if we didnt follow some of the shows crew off-set, but we do. When the studio executive in charge of the show heads off to visit a dominatrix to unwind, I wasnt sure if the season was heading the right way or jumping the shark. Worse yet, I wasnt sure if these characters were worth caring about. They and their plots seemed to be designed to shock us, but they didnt do much to round out these new characters or advance the existing characters any further. While the characters did go through a lot, few showed any enduring changes. Even those who split and found new relationships, such as Matt and Kimber, still seemed to be the same people, unchanged by the events happening in their lives.

That is, in fact, is the main problem with season 5, if not the entire show. The characters dont really move forward in development. Christian, in a particular, doesnt really change from his womanizing ways. He continues to jump from woman to woman with little feeling for them, it seems. While this has been the status quo for a few seasons, it seems particularly apparent in season 5.

Of course, the celebrity guests kept coming in season 5, including Rosie O'Donnell, Jennifer Coolidge, and Jai Rodriguez. In fact, they were sometimes the biggest draw of an episode, and I want to see what big names they pull in for season 6. The season cliffhanger, as well, does make me want to watch the next season, if only the beginning, to see if any storylines are resolved. Overall, while it was a disappointment, Nip Tuck is still an intriguing show to watch. There are however, only eight episodes scheduled for 2009 (the rest of season 5), so dont expect much for the next year.

Concentration: Short concentration spans are common and easily overcome by using a variety of learning aids and methods. The skills they will learn will enable them to concentrate and improve their memories throughout their lives.

Stopping boredom: boredom is another problem that many young students encounter. That's why good teachers do their best to create different ways to keep them interested with their dance lessons. Giving students a task that will challenge them and keep their minds focussed is difficult, but even more so when at the same time everybody needs to enjoy it.

Ensuring that creativity is part of the dance curriculum is difficult. To start with it is best to meet the teachers of the dance school. You can look over the school curriculum and see what sort of creative tools are being used by the teachers. If you want to unlock Falco, you will have to complete the 100-man brawl. While this sounds rather difficult but it is really easy if you have been playing Super Smash Brawl for some time.

Sonic on the other hand can be unlocked if you complete the adventure mode. This is rather interesting. You can unlock Wolf by completing the adventure mode and the bosse battle mode using Fox. Inviting only people who know each other is not an ingredient for a successful party. The guest list should be mixed up a little bit, so that people can meet and get to know one another. If you feel that inappropriate, a card in the mail is never a bad idea.

DECORATIONS & FOOD: Again, be sure to keep it simple. The next time you view a movie you could notice that in the credits it may list the gaffer. This individual is really the head electrician and could also be referred to as the Lighting Director or Chief Lighting Technician. The gaffer is in charge of setting up all the production lighting and supervises the people that takes care of that job.

However, you might ask where does the term "gaffer" originate from? The title of Gaffer is British and is a slang term for "grandfather". It's meant to be a term of respect. In the film industries beginning years longshoremen were employed to move the very heavy lighting equipment. The most experienced and senior one was was called the "grandfather" or "Gaffer". His most experienced assistant was called the "Best Boy". Now when you see movie credits you'll know about the "Gaffer" and his "Best Boy".

Gaffer tape has quite a few excellent properties. It's easy to tear, but it won't easily break by pulling or twisting. It sticks to a lot of different surfaces and doesn't leave a sticky residue when removed. These properties make it the near perfect tape to use in television and big screen productions.

Identifying items on a stage is highly important to any production. On a set the most common gaff tape is matte black in a 4 inch width. Many colors have applications on a set to identify the spots actors must stand, show hazards on the set and to color code cables for lighting.

If there is only one "have to have" to make sure that every one of the pieces of a set come and stay put properly it's gaffer's tape. If it needs to be tied down, made safe, marked and identified you better have the perfect tape to make it that way. Gaffer tape - don't get to the set without some.

Cher got a lot of attention that year for Moonstruck because she won an Oscar. But in my opinion, Cage stole the show in that movie, giving his second great performance of the year. He plays a heartbroken Italian baker who loves opera and has a wooden hand.

In more recent years, he's continued to pick occasional gems to add to his filmography. He was amazing in Adaptation, Leaving Las Vegas, and Matchstick Men. His role as Charlie Kaufman, the screenwriter of Adaptation proves to me that this guy may be one of the best actors in the world.

I'm not alone in thinking that Cage is a highly skilled and talented actor. He has a large repertoire of award nominations and wins. He was nominated for the Golden Globe for his portrayals in Leaving Las Vegas, Adaptation, and Moonstruck, which he won for Leaving Las Vegas.

So give some of Cage's good roles a try the next time you're in a video store. Or you can stick with Ghost Rider. But you know what I'd choose.

American Flyer Model Train Series - Lionel Trains

The American Flyer is probably the most famous of all model train series. They did achieve their peaks around the 40's and another peak in the 60's, they are around longer than that. Their popularity is also very popular today too and they are, I feel they are going to be hanging around another 100 years!

A toy maker in Chicago addressed as William Hafner, in the very early 20th century developed a model train built on a clockwork motor, actually for the use in toy cars. By about 1905 however he made up his mind to put them into use in model trains as well. Luckily he did, the car did not sell as well as trains.

William Hafner share the exact same name as his best friend, William Coleman approached a small manufacturer of hardware, Edmonds-Metzel. They used this organization to start producing trains in 1907.

They were first commercialized under the name of Edmond Metzel trains, because they were so hot on demand they required a entirely new name and they came up with the name of the American Flyer. This came about in 1910. Even the name of the hardware firm they were using had also changed its name to incorporate the American Flyer name in it.

There are a few reasons why they sell so well. They were quite easily affordable then other popular makes of model trains at the time and because they were also quite a bit more practical then more budget style model trains of the time.

Mr William Hafner draw out from the partnership around 1913. He used the cash he had already made and built up his own firm. Colemans American Flyer Trains. At the same time he decided to moved the organisation from Chicago where it was set up to New Haven in Connecticut where he stayed. He also begun to drastically re design the American Flyer and turned it into an S-scale model train in 1939. This scale is a modification of the popular O scale or model which was then the leader on the market.

The S-scale was much smaller then the O-scale and this made it more popular with enthusiasts as it needed less room to setup a proper track. The scale is 1:64, considerably smaller then the O-scale yet still very detailed and accurate.

He too made some other change in 1946 that amended the realisticness of the American flyer more so. Model trains, electric model trains at that time had been run on 3 rail tracks. Not practical. He changed it so they ran on two rail tracks, much like their larger counterparts. These tracks had 7/8th inches 'tween every rail. This made the trains run better as well.

How ever, television was starting to take hold at this time also. This distracted many from their hobbies they would normally spend their spare time on. Likewise at this time, discount chain stores came into play, discounting train sets that enterprises like A C Gilbert could not compete with. in 1962, Gilbert traded the American Flyer to Wrather Group. This organisation made toys as well, but usually on a huge scale and tended to produce poor quality as well. Sales of course fell through the floor and in 1967 the corporation went bankrupt.

A better toy train maker and the market leader at time, Lionel Corporation bought the American Flyer. This enterprise itself was having difficulty with finances too and they also went bankrupt in 1969, so they sold off the rights to the American Flyer to some other manufacturer, General Mills.

This organisation, General Mills, started trading numerous of the designs of the original designed Gilbert American Flyer, it how ever sell everything it purchased from at that time Lionel Corporation to Kenner, who then in turn sold the enterprise to a man named Richard Kughn. This happened in 1985.

Mr Richard Kughn had enomous success with the firm and design for eleven years, but he sold out in 1996 to a enterprise called Wellspring Partners, who then took on the original name of Lionel and called themselves Lionel LLC, which still functions now.

They sell the S-scale American Flyer still. They were at first concentrating on selling some other scale models, but they started selling more of American Flyer in 2002.

Restoring Old Photos Using Photoshop Elements

Undoubtedly you have older photographs in albums or frames that have become damaged by the sun or general wear and tear. Thanks to the technology available through the computer and photo editing software, including Adobe Photoshop Elements, it is easy to restore these cherished photographs.

Photoshop Elements is an easy to learn program. Using Elements you have options that can help restore your photographs. One of these tools is the Dust and Scratch Filter which can be used to remove any marks, scratches and blots on your old photos. The Dust and Scratch Filter is found on the Menu Bar under the Filter Tab. A drop down menu lists your choices where you want to click on the Noise tab and then Dust and Scratches.

After selecting the Dust and Scratches menu, a pop up window will open with two control sliders. The first slider option is called the Radius and the other one is called the Threshold. You may also have another window open if the preview box is checked. Radius and threshold are the main options that are used in restoring the picture.

You can try to adjust the Radius slider which may remove the scratches. Please be aware that overdoing it may make the edges blurred as well. If blurring happens you can adjust the Threshold slider. This should allow the details to return and make the picture clearer with the scratches disappearing. You should be careful not to set the sliders too far or you will only create blotches on the picture.

To get rid of any marks you want to highlight only the part of the photo where the scratches are located, not the entire photograph. To highlight these areas you use the Lasso tool.

Once you have fixed the damaged areas you can use the feather tool to soften the edges of the selected area so that the fixed area will not be obvious on the picture. To use the feather tool you select the Feather option and choose the Scratch and Dust Filter again. You may want to do the radius and threshold adjustment process again to get the correct texture and make sure all the scratches and marks are removed.

To finish the process and make the photograph appear professional I recommend you crop the image enough to remove any cracks or torn edges of the photograph. The canvas may be use to equally crop the image.

You can also add drama to your picture by adding a drop shadow. Drop shadows make the photo appear as if it has been lifted off the page. You can remove color from the photo using tools Shift+Ctrl+U. Once it is black and white you can then add color by putting a little amount of Sepia. This is done on the Hue or Saturation tab. The contrast may be adjusted using the Levels option.

This is only one very easy way to remove blotches and marks on an old picture. It is also a good way to make the picture look new but still appear classical. It will be a pleasant and easy way to display pictures kept on old albums and cabinets for a long time.

NBC certainly is hoping that the third time's the charm, with a third season beginning. If history shows us anything about the television industry, sometimes when you hold onto a show long enough, its viewership significantly improves. Seinfeld took years before it became a hit.

Their hope is even higher, given Fey's recent success and popularity as a guest starring on Saturday Night Live as Sarah Palin. No doubt her dead ringer performance has contributed strongly to SNL's great ratings this season. Whether that helps Fey's show will be seen.

I hope so too, because I want to see more episodes of this show. I don't want "30 Rock' to become one of those smart shows that America was too stupid to watch.

Use the following steps for installing a canvas and you will find that it not only looks excellent, it is already prepared to move whenever the time comes to do so.

1. Make sure that everything is prepared in advance: Just as you need to prepare before painting any surfaces, preparation and planning are needed before you start to install your canvas.

Remove existing wallpaper. Never hang your mural over old wallpaper.

Fix cracks and holes with spackling mixture, let it dry and sand the surface until it is smooth.

2. Mark your starting point: Begin from a completely horizontal starting line.

3. Apply primer: Preparing the wall ahead of time is also important and you're going to want to apply a primer and allow it to dry at least 24 hours before you begin adding the glue.

4. Apply glue: The sort of glue you will use depends upon the size of the canvas that will be installed.

For smaller murals, it is fine to use Jade-glue or a similar product.

For larger murals, it is simply best to use common commercial glue available at notable hardware stores or stores specializing in wall coverings.

Apply a solid layer of adhesive, covering the whole surface you want to cover. Take care that you do not apply a layer that is too thick.

Tips On Making Better Flower Photos

When making pictures of a flower garden, learn some tricks from the professionals. This article shows you some simple things you can do to enhance the quality of your flower photos a great deal.

Having bright sunlight when you are taking photos of your garden and flowers is usually not the best choice, although you may enjoy the garden most on such days.

Initially, if you are looking at a garden, you may not pay attention to things like that. Since your eyes are used to accommodating different levels of light, it may be difficult for you to realize that lots of bright sunlight can actually diminish the look of a photo.

Overcast days may be less pleasing for you, but they do produce a type of light which tends to give pleasing results for your flower photographs. Therefore, try shooting flowers on such days, and notice the result.

There are also some other tricks that you can use, to make your subjects show their best when taking photographs. Professional photographers do it all of the time and create great results.

For instance, you can learn how to make your own clouds. This only takes a white garbage bag (unused) or a white t-shirt. Along with that, you will also need a hanger that can be shaped into a square. Attach the hanger to the t-shirt or the garbage bag, then hold the contraption above the subject to shade it from the direct sunlight.

Another thing that you can do is to get up very early in the morning and make pictures at dawn. Notice the special quality of that light! Or make photos near sunset; the light is very interesting then also.

Finally, if you don't have enough light on the subject, like in case of a flower in a very shady spot, you can use a mirror or a piece of aluminum foil. Hold it so that it reflects extra light on the subject, to make it stand out better. This will help focus the attention on the flower that you are trying to capture.

EyeClops Night Vision Goggles - if you love me, buy for Xmas

Last year, I bought the Eyeclops bionic eye for my son, and he thought it was pretty cool. When I first heard that EyeClops Night Vision Goggles were coming out, I was very excited, for myself AND for my son!

Honestly, at first I was disappointed with how they worked, until I asked about traditional night vision goggles and realized that night vision has its limitations, no matter how much you spend.

There are a couple of changes to get used to with the Eyeclops Night Vision Goggles. First of all, it's disorienting that your vision comes from the center eyepiece on your forehead. You see, normally you see the world through your eyes, but the eyeclops night vision uses a 3rd infrared eye to collect the infrared light and distribute it to your right eye. I guess the nature of infrared night vision also prevents you from using both eyes to see in the dark.

Another thing is that the field of vision is much smaller than your normal, 180 degree field of vision, but I learned that that's just one of the limitations of night vision itself, no matter what device you're using.

A final difficulty is that since you have a smaller field of vision, and you're only seeing in night vision through one eye (the right eye) (and yes, this IS typical in expensive night vision goggles as well), you lose a bunch of depth perception. The moral here is that you don't want to go running around in night vision mode - you'll smash into stuff.

It's funny, I learned from reading about pirates on Mythbusters that the reason they wore a patch over one eye was because if they were in a swordfight and had to go below deck where it's dark, they could take the patch off their patched eye and that eye would be ready to see in darkness and they wouldn't be night blinded. Same premise with the eyeclops night vision goggles - since you're only seeing in the dark with 1 eye, the other eye is ready to see in normal light anytime.

Now on this point, I'm unsure, but the Eyeclops Night Vision Glasses have 2 modes of night vision - a stealth mode and a regular infrared night vision mode. From what I've seen, the stealth mode doesn't seem to use any type of lights to illuminate the darkness, making the wearer completely invisible to others. In regular mode, the eyeclops night vision uses red lights mounted in a circle around the 3rd eye as well as the right eye to illuminate the darkness somewhat, improving your night vision, but obviously giving away your position to others.

All in all, I'm very pleased with Jakks Eyeclops Night Vision Infrared Stealth Goggles, and I think they'll make a fantastic and fun gift for your kids for Christmas 2008. Check them out, and be confident that your kids will love them and they'll learn a lot by having them.

Writing: Music or Silence?

I can never be absolutely dead set on a decision here. Turn on the ITunes when it's time to get some writing done, or try and get my writing room as quiet as all possible?

For you people who prefer neither but instead like to have a TV on in the background while you write, go away because I don't have cable and can't see how you don't become distracted every five minutes. And now that I think about it if you're writing on a computer with internet access and you have the television on, how could you possibly get any writing done at all? I would be flipping through TV channels and Firefox tabs like it's nobody's business.

I'm listening to the song "White Winter Hymnal" by the band Fleet Foxes as I write this article. Keeping my thoughts straight is difficult because the song is such an attention grabber. Perhaps that's the problem I have. If it's a catchy song I'm listening to then it becomes difficult to keep my writing at the forefront of my thoughts. That's better: I just put on some instrumental music by The Album Leaf and now I can concentrate a little bit better on the article.

However, even strictly instrumental songs will sometimes make it hard for me to focus on the task at hand. I was typing up something yesterday while listening to a classical piece on a podcast I downloaded, and the song was so good that I had to stop writing and listen to it.

Is writing in silence any easier, though? First, it doesn't seem likely that most writers have the ability to get to a quiet place whenever they have an urge to write. The number of distractions around you at all times that make tiny little noises we are usually able to tune out are abundant, keeping it nearly impossible to find a place that absolutely silent. How about going to the library to write? The absence of those small noises we're used to tuning out can sometimes make writing at the library it's own challenge.

Is there a middle ground then? You might try what I do and go to your local coffee shop. My local homegrown coffee shops provide a cozy and warm vibe, unlike my local Starbucks (blah). With the light music coming from seemingly invisible speakers in the ceiling and the soft chattering of other customers around me, the coffee shop is a great place for me to get a ton of writing finished up. For some reason there are no distractions in this kind of environment, it's conducive to my writing style. You'll always find comfort at home at your desk, but try making a trip one day to your local coffee house and see what happens.

No one is the same, however. So what places are the best ones to write at for you? Do you take your IPod with you?

NOTE: I didn't even touch on the best times for me to write. Early morning-like around dawn-and late at night are times when my gears really start turning.

Japanese pop music owes a lot of its success to the fans. Without their fanatical support, the scene might not have survived and prospered. As it grew and financial resources became stronger, the artistes were able to branch out to overseas markets. This helped to spread the ever increasing influence that they now have in many other countries.

Japanese pop artistes do not just rely on their fans to keep their careers moving. There is constant experimentation with new ideas. Japanese are also known for their spontaniety, which is reflected in the fascinating evolution that exists in their pop music culture.

With a mixture of originality, uniqueness and a growing fanbase, Japanese popular music culture is likely to grow stronger. There is strong national pride too in their own art forms, with music being paid particular attention.
